I would be just a thimbleful
to one who counts humility;
or even less to one who seeks
a sea of docibility.
To him who gathers deeds of saints
and their venerability,
I would be just a thimbleful
and very far from symbolful.
I would be just a thimbleful
to him who seeks out honesty;
if looking for a hero, then
you’d just be stuck with non-est me;
And she who waits for gold and red
as I approach will want to see,
I would be just a thimbleful,
so save your blare and cymbalful.
I would be just a thimbleful
if life’s successes were its gold;
and discontentment is my trove,
regret, my friend as I grow old.
“But Grace has brought me safe thus far,”
to where one grows a hundredfold.
Where small things stand with seraphim
I would be just a thimbleful of Him.
